The story of Groot Constantia: South Africa's oldest wine farm

Discover the legacy of Groot Constantia, South Africa's oldest wine-producing farm. Experience a cinematic journey through time, seasons, and soil.

Established in 1685, Groot Constantia is more than just a farm; it is a family, a craft, and a collective story written in the South African landscape.
As one of the oldest surviving trademarks in the world, this national treasure preserves a deeply human narrative of dedication and shared legacy.
Created by Sledgehammer Studio, this video uses cinematic craft to celebrate a story much greater than the sum of its parts. Rooted. Preserved. Shared.

Creating this video with the team at Groot Constantia was a wonderful glimpse into the sense of family this institution creates around itself.
We set out to showcase the many hands that touch the process of the wine all the way from soil to bottle, paying homage to the many generations that have carried out the work before, and also those who are still to come.
The voice of winemaker Daniel Keulder is central to the film, centring around the theme of custodianship in today's chapter of what is a much longer story.

This video was first publicly screened at a media event held at Groot Constantia, after which panel discussions were facilitated.
